  • Physically reset the router by pushing the reset button with a pin.
Hold it in for about 5 seconds until all the status lights on the front of the router go black momentarily.
  • Reboot desktop computer.
First couple of times the desktop froze on its BIOS screen after reboot. This is not normal even in this circumstance. Rebooting should proceed the way that it always does.

Router admin default address & l/p[edit]

Default IP to access router admin: 192.168.8.1 (MWN-WAPR300N) 192.168.0.1 for MWN-WAPR150N, l/p admin/admin

This information is printed on the label on the back of the router.

N.B. The heads of drywall screws are too big to easily release the router when it's mounted on the wall. Use smaller screws, and keep in mind that the wider part of the mounting slot is in the middle, not at the bottom.

Enter internet provider IP addresses & masks[edit]

  • router admin > Setup Wizard
    • Select Static IP [next]
    • Enter internet provider's IP addresses:

      • If the internet isn't available the manual for the MWN-WAPR300N says you can try Advanced Settings > MAC Clone > click the MAC Clone button > Then [APPLY]
      • When I first installed the 300N router I was having a hard time getting the settings to stick. I tried this, but I'm not sure if it actually had any effect.

Issues with Medialink MWN-WAPR00N[edit]

Firmware[edit]

Version installed on the router is 5.07.42 (I think. Definitely .42 is the last part). This version of the firmware doesn't support allowing the IIS server to handle subdomain requests. E.g. all of the staging client sites on the Windows 2008 server.

Don't use this router until a new version of the firmware is available. Unfortunately on their website the version is listed as 5.07 and there is no date, so it's impossible to tell the version of the firmware without downloading and unpacking it.

Mounting the unit on the wall[edit]

Don't use drywall screws. Use screws with smaller heads. It's almost impossible to get the router off the wall with drywall screws.
