Overview[edit]
Information about maintaining Yoosee SD-M5 video doorbell.
Installation[edit]
- Cat6 RJ45 cable plugs into the back of the camera.
- A screw secures the camera to its mount at the bottom of the camera.
- Other end of Cat6 RJ45 plugs into PoE injector supplied by Yoosee.
- Other network plug of PoE injector goes to Wifi router.
- PoE injector is plugged into power outlet.
Configuration[edit]
Bluetooth doorbell chime[edit]
- Make sure that the doorbell has power and is connected to the router.
- Press the Volume button of the chime and release once the light comes on.
- Press the Call button doorbell (the one with the bell on it). The light on the chime should flash once.
- Press the Call button on the doorbell again. The light on the chime should flash several times. This indicates that the devices are paired.
Block doorbell from WAN[edit]
TP-Link Archer C9 wifi router[edit]
Log into router admin.
- Advanced tab
- Access Control > Rule
- Default Filter Policy: Deny the packets specified...to pass through the router
- Add Rule
- Host
- Host Description: Yoosee Doorbell
- Mode: Mac Address
- Mac Address: Obtain and enter Mac address of Yoosee SD-M5
- Rule > Add New...
- Target: Any
- Schedule: Permanent
- Status: On
- Host
New access control rules require a reboot of the router to take effect.
This works, but it prevents the mobile apps from connecting to the doorbell.
Synology Surveillance Station[edit]
Reserved IP[edit]
Surveillance Station connects to the device by IP. The doorbell should be given a reserved IP in the DHCP server.
- TP-Link router admin > Advanced tab > DHCP > Address Reservation
- Add New... button
- Enter Mac address of doorbell
- Enter IP of doorbell
After saving changes, a reboot of the wifi router is required. Before rebooting, take the SD-M5 doorbell off the network (i.e. unplug the ethernet cable from the PoE injector).
Reboot the wifi router.
Reconnect the SD-M5 doorbell to the LAN and power. Wait for the harsh beeping sound from the doorbell.
Confirm the doorbell's IP address in the TP-Link admin under "wired clients."
Enable RTSP on doorbell[edit]
- Connect to doorbell through the Yoosee mobile app.
- Open the doorbell device.
- Click the gear icon to open the device settings.
- Network > NVR connection
- Enable to connect > toggle on
- Create a password. This password will be used in Surveillance Station.
Confirming the RTSP stream[edit]
At this point the RTSP stream should be available on the LAN.
Confirm with VLC. File > Open Network (⌘+N)
Enter URL of doorbell RTSP stream: rtsp://admin:[PASSWORD]@[DOORBELL_IP]:554/onvif1
VLC should open the live view from the doorbell.
Adding camera to Surveillance Station[edit]
- Use the Surveillance Station url
[DSM Root URL]/webman/3rdparty/SurveillanceStation/ - Or Synology DSM > Package Center > Surveillance Station > Open button
- Add Camera...
- Name:
front door - IP:
[dedicated IP of camera] - Port:
5000 - Brand:
[ONVIF] - User:
admin - Password:
[password set in Yoosee app] - Click Test Connection button to confirm that Surveillance Station can connect to the doorbell. Video and audio format will be filled in automatically if the test is successful.
- Click the Next button to save the camera configuration.
- Click the Finish button on the next dialog to finish configuration.
- Name:
- Add Camera...
Troubleshooting[edit]
Cannot connect to doorbell[edit]
Symtoms
Android Yoosee app reports that the doorbell is not available.
Diagnostics
- Confirm the Ethernet cable is carrying data.
- Plug one end into the switch where the PoE was plugged.
- Plug the other end of the ethernet calbe (the one in the doorframe) into a laptop.
- Turn off wifi on the laptop.
- Confirm that the laptop can reach the router.
- Confirm that the doorbell is working.
- Remove the doorbell from the doorframe.
- Plug a different shorter Cat6 cable into the PoE injector.
- Plug the other end of the new cable into the doorbell (closer to the router).
- Confirm that the doorbell gets power and can be seen by the Android Yoosee app.
Disabling default audible alerts[edit]
There is an annoying telephone ringing noise that plays when the doorbell is pressed.
This can be disabled by blocking the doorbell from WAN and thus the Yoosee servers. [1]
Determine the IP address the doorbell on the LAN[edit]
The router shows the doorbell as "unnamed" along with its Mac address. If there is another device without a host name, it is impossible to determine which one is the doorbell.
See Viewing Device Names on a LAN. Yoosee SD-M5 is listed as "Shenzhen Gwelltimes Technology Co.,Ltd".
Password prompt in Yoosee app[edit]
Symptom
The Yoosee app sees the doorbell as a device on the network. While attempting to add the doorbell as a new device in the Yoosee app, the app prompts for the device password before allowing you to connect to it. There is no password available for the device, however.
Solution
Reset the doorbell. This requires access to the back of the doorbell device.
