Overview[edit]

This is outdated information, and I never managed to get this version of Minecraft working anyway. It is saved here for archival purposes only. See Hosting a Minecraft Server on Synology DSM for current information.

Instructions on how to install and administer a Minecraft server on a Synology DSM.

Basic instructions can be found here. The instructions at that link are a few years old and document installing on DSM 5.x. I've documented the differences in installation that I encountered below.

Installing Minecraft Server[edit]

  1. Log in to Synology DSM
  2. Install Java
    Package Center > Developer Tools > Java8
  3. Control Panel > User > Advanced tab > User Home > Enable user home service: checked
  4. Package Center > Settings button > Package Sources tab > Add button
    Name: Minecraft Server
    Location: http://www.hildinger.us/sspks/index.php
    Click Ok
  5. Package Center > Settings button > General tab > Trust Level > Any Publisher: selected
  6. Now the Minecraft Server package will be available under Package Center > Community
  7. Install the Minecraft Server package.
