Cloud options

  • Synology/NAS/CloudStation
    • Pros:
      • Support for OSX/Win/Android/iOS.
      • Unlimited storage (well, up to the size of the drive)
      • Syncs with Google Drive
    • Cons:
  • Google Drive
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • AWS
  • SpiderOak
    • Pros:
      • Good encryption. The key is stored locally, so they can't get at your data even if they tried.
      • 2Gb free; $100/yr for 100Gb
    • Cons:
      • Reportedly slow on OS X, drains battery power, slow sync.
  • Bittorrent Sync
    • Pros:
      • Works with OSX/Win/Android/iOS
      • Data is only stored on local devices, not on a remote server.
      • Works well with NAS.
      • Uses QR codes/alphanumeric strings to match folders. No login or account creation necessary.
      • Choose which folders to sync on each device.
    • Cons:
      • Port numbers are blocked on some networks which makes it difficult/impossible to access on an office network.
  • Dropbox (Condi Rice is on their board of directors, hisssss)
