Placing right angles to vanishing points

  1. Place two Vanishing Points on the Horizon line.
  2. Draw semicircle between vanishing points either above or (typically) below the horizon line.
  3. Pick a point anywhere on the circle to use as the Station Point.
  4. Two lines drawn from the two vanishing points to the Station Point will always be perpedicular to each other. [1]

Placing measuring points

Measuring Points translate distances that are parrallel to the picture plane to distances that recede in perspective.

  1. Place the Station Point as described in Placing right angles to vanishing points
  2. Draw a segment of a circle with a radius from the Left Vanishing Point to the Station Point.
  3. Draw the segment of the circle so that it intersects the Horizon Line. This intersection is the Right Measuring Point.
    (Basically this is placing a point on the horizon the same distance from the left vanishing point as the station point is from the left vanishing point. )
  4. Repeat the process for the Left Measuring Point.
    1. Draw a segment of a circle with a radius from the Right Vanishing Point to the Station Point.
    2. Have the cirlce segment intersect the Horizon Line. This intersection is the Left Measuring Point. [2]

Draw a perfect cube in 2PP

  1. Set up a Station Point and 2 Measuring Points.
  2. Draw a vertical line parrallel to the picture plane.
  3. Draw a horizontal line the same length as the vertical line starting the base of the vertical line and extending to the left. This is the Foreground Measuring Line".
  4. Draw another horizontal line the same length as the vertical line starting the base of the vertical line and extending to the right.
  5. Draw a line from the Left Measuring Point (LMP) to the right end point of the right "Foreground Measuring Line".
  6. Draw a line from the "'Right Measuring Point'" (RMP) to the left end point of the left "Foreground Measuring Line".
  7. Draw 2 lines, one from the bottom of the vertical line to the "'Left Vanishing Point'" (LVP) and the other from the top of the vertical line to the "'LVP.."
  8. Draw 2 lines, one from the bottom of the vertical line to the "'Right Vanishing Point'" and from the top of the vertical line to the "'RVP.'"
  9. Draw a vertical line between the intersection of the line to the LMP and the bottom line to the LVP and the intersection of the line to the LMP and the the top line to the LVP. This is one of the visible back edges of the cube.
  10. Draw a vertical line between the intersection of the the line to the RMP and the bottom line to the RVP and the intersection of the line to the RMP and the top line to the RVP. The is the other visible back edge of the cube.
