Versions

  • Windows iTunes 12.2.x
  • Synology Audio Station v5.4-x

Exporting the playlist from iTunes

  • Click on Playlists in the menu strip that is 2nd from the top.
  • Playlists are displayed in the left column.
  • Select the playlist to export.
  • File > Library > Export Playlist...
    • Path: \\DiskStation\music\playlists
    • File name: (defaults to the playlist name)
    • Save as type: .m3u

Edit the playlist for use on Synology

  • Navigate to the .m3u file in Windows Explorer.
  • Edit the file with Notepad+++.
    • Find & replace in the mp3 paths: D:\music\ > ..\
    • All organizing directory names should be all lowercase. E.g. "Pop" > "pop", "Disco" > "disco", etc.
Synology's file system is case-sensitive, while Windows is not. If the mp3 files were in the iTunes library long enough, they may have been added to the library at a point when the folders started with uppercase letters.

Accessing playlist in Audio Station

  • Once the .m3u file is saved in the /music/playlists directory, it should show up under Playlists in Audio Station.
  • If the track is displayed with an X beside it, there is something wrong with the path to the mp3 in the .m3u file.
